Hallertau: the hop region!

In the 16th century, the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt had paved the way for the law called Reinheitsgebot regarding beer, which was passed in all German states in the 19th century. This law dictated not only the ingredients but also the selling price of the beverage. Today, the Hallertau region, south of Ingolstadt, is the largest hop-growing region in Germany and prides itself on being the first place in Central Europe to grow hops. This game is set around 1850, the era that made the Hallertau region what it is today. Play as the mayor of a small village in the Hallertau region. Provide local artisans with the goods they need by growing crops, raising sheep and playing your cards right. In the end, the player who has best developed his village wins.

Hallertau is the new game from renowned author Uwe Rosenberg. In its tradition, Hallertau is a combination of worker placement and a thematic mechanic of crop rotation on two fields.

The German region of Hallertau is the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world (as of 2020) and began growing it in the 8th century. The game is set in the era when this region became the center of today's hop production. Players are the rulers of a small town and attempt to upgrade its craft workshops and increase its wealth, showing this by upgrading their town center.
