When you use the Orléans: The Black Death expansion, the playing conditions are made more difficult from the start of the game thanks to the "rat cards". It happens that there are fewer monks in the game, no gear can be placed on location cards, or the construction of trading stations has to be paid for with an extra coin.

The new events also tie into "corpse tokens", a certain number of which players must place in their bag at the end of each round. These tokens can be randomly drawn from the bag at the start of the round and take up valuable space in the Marketplace, as they cannot be used for any actions. To get rid of them for good, a player can fill indulgence cards through pilgrimages, donations, or other conditions, which also earn victory points at the end of the game. Fortunately, each player has a "plague doctor", a new character available every turn (or almost) and usable universally.
