Create an accountEach turn, you and your opponent alternate playing a total of 3 faction-specific cards for their action effects. These effects include positioning your warbands, triggering combat, mining crystals, granting temporary passive effects, and more. When it comes time to combat, you'll use the same cards for their combat values, simultaneously attempting to gain combat bonuses, inflict and repel losses, and increase your warbands' dominance value to win the battle.
The two factions are completely asymmetrical in their play styles, decks, victory conditions—and even the parts of the map they have access to.
As an Ironclad commander, your primary goal is to lay the foundations for your forges in the outer mountains and, once you've collected enough crystals, build forges on top of those foundations.
As the leader of the Woodwalkers, your mission is to locate your people's ancient totems using vision cards, open the way to them by defeating the Ironclad troops, and finally secure them in the outer forests, out of reach. Once you have recovered the third totem as leader, or built the third forge as commander, you immediately win the game.
Ironwood also offers a solo mode against the Ironclad or the Woodwalkers. While both solo opponents operate on the same principles, each presents unique aspects to their faction.
